Yes, as everyone says – it is pretty tough getting a new venture off the ground. Although we’ve had very encouraging responses since we started spreading the word in January, as just blogged on LinkedIn, two team runs were organized but then postponed at the last minute, due to one thing or another. So disappointing.

I go to a yoga class every Saturday morning. It’s a lovely, easy, stretchy class – nothing too taxing. At the end of the class, the instructor Cassandra always give us some homework for the week ahead. Homework? Doesn’t sound nice. But actually, the homework is always about a way to think about being in the world that helps us be the best version of who we want to be.
This week, the homework was to find the positive energy and perseverance that you need to keep doing what you want to do, even if the going gets tough.
I need that. People are telling me it takes time to get a business off the ground. Sometimes it feels a bit insane: believing, pushing, smiling, developing, chasing, imagining…
But I know that the Mirror Mirror concept is solid, pioneering even. I am convinced it can take off. I know that it will add value. I am passionate about the angle it takes. I am not giving up.
In search of clients
I realised I’d been in touch with so many people over the past 6 months that now was the time to thank them for their support and update them on progress. And if you read this blog regularly, or just occasionally, I’d like to thank you too for your interest, curiosity and good vibes:
So here I am. Feeling better than I did last month. Still working on business development like mad. Drawing energy from the fact that energy can come from within if you can just tap into it.

It’s 10.00am and I have a skype call lined up with a friend of a friend called Rekha Kent. Rekha moved out to Kenya 5 years ago with her family and went through her own journey of starting a new business from scratch out there. I was referred to her because was getting into a bit of a panic about how long things were taking to get going. I fully expected she’d provide me with some much needed, comforting reassurance.

So, one Friday afternoon, I got a call from a guy I happened to have been sitting next to on a flight to London a few weeks back. As we chatted, I discovered that he is the CEO of an agricultural business with projects in southern Europe and Africa, and I’d obviously told him about Mirror Mirror. He’d wanted a brochure, which I’d sent through afterwards.
Anyway, he was calling to say that his team in London were about to get some funding and embark on a growth phase. He wanted to set them up to succeed and thought Mirror Mirror would be a great way to do that.

Even thought my feet are killing me and I’d love to sleep for a whole day, my mind is whirring. It’s full of excitement, new inputs, ideas and directions. It’s obvious that when you ready a product and declare it ‘NOW AVAILABLE!!’ that there will be relative silence in return. But it still takes you by surprise.
But we’re not sitting 🙂 . Now that the Mirror Mirror process has been designed and is ‘ready’ to go, we need people to test Mirror Mirror, to give us feedback and help us fine tune it to be an AMAZING intervention.

Last week, if you had shown me the top 10 tips for how to make the best use of your time, I would have told you I was already doing them. Setting goals, writing lists, bundling work into tasks, starting with the most difficult thing first… piece of cake.
When I was younger, if I told my mum I didn’t have time to do something, she’d say, “Well make time!” So, I did. At one point, a few years ago, I had 2 young kids, I worked full time, acted in a play, and wrote a full film script among other things – like working full time. When I saw people wondering how I did it, I would share the secret: hard work pays off.
