Unleashing Unlikely Leaders

The vast majority of the world’s poor are women. They bear almost all responsibility for meeting basic needs of the family, yet are systematically denied the resources, information and freedom of action they need to fulfil this responsibility. The Hunger Project firmly believes that these women are the key to ending world hunger. When given a voice, these women become powerful and important change-agents in raising their families and their villages out of poverty. Unlocking the creativity, leadership, entrepreneurialism and productivity of the poorest of the poor is what we do. We build leaders. We especially build women leaders.  Continue reading

Believe You Can Succeed And You Will

by Anja Uitdehaag

  • Can I really do this?
  • What if people don’t like what I have done?
  • What if I cannot create something new?
  • She is so smart, much better and more worthy than me;
  • I will never be successful – success is for others.

I seem to be pre-programmed to question myself.

When self-doubts creep in, I get highly sensitive and quick to take things personally. Or – when things have not gone as expected – I just do nothing and give in to the disappointment. Continue reading

I Was Looking For Consolation, I Found Happiness

At some point in life, we all take a decision about the question: “What shall I do in life?” Schools, workshops and seminars lead us to have a specific profession or a job. So,that’s already decided. Health, law, politics, engineering, architecture, technology, education, gastronomy, etc. We work in one of these fields, maybe in a tiny office or in a very big company or in a family firm or in a government office. Some of the women work in the most tiring job of the world: as a mother and a housewife. Continue reading

My Story

by Raechanah Syafei

It was in 2010 when I was diagnosed with cancer and for two years I underwent medical treatment.

In the middle of 2012 I had total hysterectomy.

I was devastated both physically and mentally throughout this time. For two years I struggled to keep my high performance level up at work and at the same time fighting against my cancer. I am a right-handed person and since I could not use my right hand anymore I learnt to write with my left hand. Continue reading

What is Effective Leadership?

by Marcel van Wiggen

If you read the vast number of books and internet posts on leadership it is easy to become confused. Different terminologies are used every other year to give almost the identical message. Some books talk about the competencies and talents you need. Other books talk about the role you need to take and what your main focus should be. Some books even make a clear distinction between men and women in leadership positions.

But in reality leadership is quite basic. Leadership is not related to being male or female. Leadership is the result of your actions, not your personality or genetically induced qualities (if there are any).

Leadership is always the result of your daily habits. Continue reading

Mind and Heart Expect Possibilities

by Romy Coomans

As I’m asked to write this article I’m just experiencing the law of Murphy first hand. The people who came to see my car didn’t take it, I got some cancellations on gigs I presumed where set, I’m broke and the sandwich I ordered is not the one I got…

I’m annoyed, irritated, like anyone else would be.

So now there are three things I can do:

  1. I can sit back and talk myself into believing I am doomed to fail;
  2. I can get up and try to do something with this in the back of my mind; its useless no matter what.
  3. I can get up and try to do something with this in the back of my mind; where I want to go.
