“Few people attain great lives, in large part because it is just so easy to settle for a good life.” – James. C. Collins
Sports can teach us a lot about goals, determination and hard-work.
According to Nicole Haislett, Olympic Swimmer, the essence of hard work is: “identifying your personal limits, and then pushing past them, and then setting new barriers, and then … repeating the process again and again.” Knowing how hard she had worked enabled her to stand behind the starting block with the confidence that she was capable of winning. And she did: three gold medals! Continue reading →

Let me just jump to it, what is Tribal Leadership? Well, perhaps it’s better to start with “what is a tribe?”. A tribe, as defined by Seth Godin in “Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us”, is any group of people, large or small, who are connected to one another, connected to a leader and connected to an idea. Most of us are members in several tribes. I am a member of my family tribe as well as a member of various social tribes. I’m also a member of a basketball tribe, the metal head tribe and the gadget-loving tribe. I was also a member of different business tribes. With each tribe, I shared a common set of values and believes. Sometimes these common values and believes drove the tribe towards a collective goal that served as a bigger purpose for the tribe, and in some special cases it even served as a noble cause. These were the best tribes of my life, for the obvious reasons related to the ultimate pursuit of happiness, and when it comes to business, it brought innovation, efficiency, productivity and profitability. It’s like one of those great movies that win both, the reviews from critics and the box-office sales. Continue reading →
It was in 2010 when I was diagnosed with cancer and for two years I underwent medical treatment.
In the middle of 2012 I had total hysterectomy.
I was devastated both physically and mentally throughout this time. For two years I struggled to keep my high performance level up at work and at the same time fighting against my cancer. I am a right-handed person and since I could not use my right hand anymore I learnt to write with my left hand. Continue reading →
One of the most important purposes of business and leaders in business is to find new ideas and inspiration to manage companies and people. The worst thing one can do is to be ignorant to the sources of information within the general environment in which the company operates. It is far better to look for good practices in different markets. There are also a lot of examples surrounding us which could be helpful: It’s possible to find innovative solutions by using experiences of people in arts, science, nature, history, music and of course sports.
Sport is very closely related to business and not just in terms of promotions, sport brands, sport management, commercial activities of ticket sales, but also in terms of sportspeople leadership behaviour and being results oriented. In sport we can find answers to many questions concerning motivation, teamwork, goal setting and key performance indicators, building connections, relationship building, collaboration and more.
